In May 2024 Glen & Melissa Sambrooks were on holiday with friends when they decided to do a “weigh in”, Glen thought that he would be around 130 Kgs and was shocked to find he was 150 Kgs. Another holiday was planned and booked on the Ghan and Kakadu for October 2024. Glen wanted to include a flight over Kakadu in his holiday. He was informed that there was a weight limit of 130Kgs and he would be unable to take the flight as he weighed 150 Kgs. Disappointed he was motivated to try and lose the 20 Kgs. By August he had lost 9 Kgs.
Having lost 9 Kgs by himself Glen was persuaded by his mother who is the Weight Recorder at Maroondah TOWN Club and use their scales to monitor his weight. On arriving Glen was then convinced to join, (which he may have been railroaded into joining by his Mum).
He found the support and encouragement from the Club members was the extra motivation and drive he needed to continue to lose the weight. He started to enjoy TOWN and has made many friends there. He has picked up tips on how to lose weight from other members and put them into practice.
He added exercise into his daily routine. He would get up about 4.0a.m. and walk around his block in Chirnside Park. He would then go to work which involved a lot of heavy lifting. After work he would walk around Lilydale Lake several times and later added weights. Glen’s wife Melissa often walked with Glen and has been very supportive of his weight loss journey.
Glen organized for a team to take part in the Pedometer Challenge, he was the team leader and encouraged the members to aim for 3,000,000 steps. The four of them reached 3,182,023 steps, winning the Challenge.
His diet now includes a lot of fruit and salads which takes a lot of self-discipline. He has removed take-aways. Both Glen and Melissa prepare his meals on a weekly basis. Glen has found the challenging times were after work and in the evenings and were difficult to overcome.
He has now reached his goal of 90 Kgs and maintaining that weight at present. He feels that the exercise is now very much a part of his daily routine. He vows that he will never let the weight go back on. He is currently looking into joining a bushwalking group to keep up with the exercise.
He attributes a big part of his success to TOWN Club and wishes to thank every body for their heartfelt congratulations, support and encouragement.
Glen has gone from a 6XL to a Large!
